Home on the Range... and Blond Furniture Revisited

I'm thrilled to pieces and just had to share that my Grandma Elverna's Frigidaire stove is coming to my house!

My grandmother's stove in her pink and red kitchen.

I can't wait to cook with the range that my grandmother used to make me real hot cocoa when I was a child... and that she cooked so many wonderful family dinners with. I also have one of her aprons... I'm sensing a photo op in my future.

This stove has a deep well on the range top and it has TWO ovens. Oh Miss Frigidaire, the soup and cookies we will make, you and I!

Just for fun, here is another view of my Grandma Elverna's kitchen, showing the cute little shelves above the sink...

Grandma Elverna and Grandpa Bud in the mid-1940s with their two boys... the little guy on the left is my Dad. :)

Now, as I recall, I promised to let you know when the Heywood Wakefield furniture from Grandpa Bud and Grandma Elverna's house would go to auction. The furniture will be sold on July 12 in a special auction of higher end antiques at Travers Auctions in Dallas, PA. There's also an antique oak sewing cabinet & machine in this auction that my Grandpa Bud brought from his parents' house several years ago. It looks like the auctioneers have some really terrific items for this auction, so it might be worth the trip if you live in or near northeastern Pennsylvania.

So, who has a suggestion for a good first thing to make using my grandmother's stove?

If you want to be iconic Americna your first meal should Be meat loaf with, mashed potatoes and green beans! What year model is the stove? The one I purchased for the Casablanca is a 1954 Frigidaire (it was the first Electric stove sold in Wichita Falls TX) and ours look close but the fronts are diffrent and The Left side door on my stove is a "warmer" how MARVLOUS its going to be to have a double stove! Cant wait to see pictures in its new habitat!

I am SO jealous! What a wonderful addition to your kitchen!!

For your first time using it, I think you should make cocoa:)

I am with Mick! That is exactly, down to the green beans, the meal I was thinking of. Add biscuits or dinner rolls, and maybe strawberry shortcake, and...

I'd say Roast Beef! Mashed potatoes and gravy, carrots ...and a pineapple upside down cake! After all, you have TWO ovens! lol...
The stove is awesome, and the memories! Well, like the commercial says, "priceless".

Oh Mick! I remember noticing that your stove is a Frigidaire the first time I saw a pic of it! I'm not sure what year this model is - my grandparents built their house around 1954-1955, so it may be only a year or two later than yours. Meatloaf is definitely a good suggestion ;)

Valerie - Hot cocoa is a very tempting suggestion ;) ...and definitely appropriate!

Caryn - Yes, biscuits are a must... and definitely some sort of old-timey dessert. My Grandma Elverna used to make coconut cream pie, but I'm not a fan of shredded coconut... maybe her dark chocolate cake recipe...

Zootsuitmama - Oh my goodness! My grandmother often made roast beef with this stove... pineapple upside down cake is a good vintagey dessert suggestion.

Hmm, maybe I'll just have to do an entire meal with pics ;) Keep the ideas coming!

How neat! Not only a vintage stove (I am sooo jealous! ;) but your grandmother's stove!

Boy, if I could squeeze another stick of furniture in this house, I'd be at that auction indeed!
